This Thursday, 15 November, school girls in Bourke will have the chance to meet their sporting idols and try out a variety of sports at the Womensport NSW Girls “Get Active” Gala Day.

Athletes attending include: Kyah Simon (Football: Matildas, Sydney FC), Teigan Allen (Football: Matildas, Western Sydney Wanderers), Mo-onia Gerrard (Netball: Diamonds, NSW Swifts) Shannon Parry (Rugby 7s: Australian Team), Emily Andrews (Rugby League: NSW) Eunice Grimes (Rugby League: NSW, Indigenous All Stars), Jessica Gardiner (Motocross), Michelle Edgtton (Softball: NSW), Sally Ward (Softball: NSW).

An integral part of the Gala Day is the unique opportunity for girls in regional NSW to meet and participate in sport with champion female athletes; role models they would normally not encounter.

Kyah Simon and Teigan Allen from the Matildas will be on hand to run some football drills and share their experiences of playing for Australia at the Women-s World Cup in Germany. Kyah was the first Aboriginal Australian, male or female, to score a goal at the World Cup Finals.

Bathurst born Mo-onia Gerrard will run netball skills sessions and share her stories about coming from regional Australia to go on to represent her country with the Diamonds.

Womensport NSW aims to encourage and develop a healthy, active lifestyle by giving regional schoolgirls in Bourke, NSW, the opportunity to take part in physical activity.
