Bill Turner is a former player and referee who has played a big role in soccer in the Newcastle area. In 1979 he formed the Northern NSW Schools Soccer Association for Under 15 teams. From an original 34 entries, the Turner Cup has now spread Australia-wide to more than 400 schools. Turner has been president of the competition since it began.
