Babbel laments lack of energy in Western Sydney's sorry City loss

Markus Babbel bemoaned a lack of energy from his Western Sydney Wanderers side following the club’s 2-0 defeat to Melbourne City on Tuesday night.

The Wanderers suffered a double hammer blow late in the first half as Lachlan Wales and Ritchie De Laet struck for the visitors within the space of two minutes.

It was a costly and eerily familiar opening half lapse from the German’s side, and ultimately a concerning way for the Wanderers to start 2019.

“If you concede goals like this then it is very difficult,” he said.

“In the first half I wasn’t happy with the performance because I couldn’t feel our energy when we were on the pitch.

“I told the boys at half time that it wasn't good enough.

“I can't feel energy in the team and if you don’t have energy you can’t win games. There’s no chance.”

The Wanderers have won just two of their 10 matches this season and the club’s frustrated supporters vented their discontent at both the half time and full time whistles.

But Babbel said there would be no drastic changes to the team and insisted the Wanderers are on the right track under his tutelage.

“I decided to come here, so now I have to work with the players that I have,” he continued.

“If you believe [it] or not I love my work, I come every day with a smile to training because I love to work with them. I hope the boys think the same like me.

“They’re not happy with the situation. This is a process, it’s going definitely in the right way.

"I was also maybe hoping it was going a little bit quicker but [it's] important [we] keep going.
