Aussies Abroad: Thomas Deng scores screamer for first J League goal

Thomas Deng opened his J League scoring account with a long-range stunner overnight while Mitch Langerak’s Nagoya Grampus moved into third after breaking a massive winning streak.

Thomas Deng scored his first J League goal as he rocketed home Yuki Muto’s cleared free kick from all of 25 yards out to hand Urawa Red Diamond an equaliser against Vissel Kobe in their 2-1 loss on Sunday.

The defender, who failed to clear the cross for Vissel’s first goal, celebrated his maiden Urawa goal with an athletic backflip.

However, Deng’s effort was not enough to salvage a point as Hotaru Yamaguchi’s volley on the edge of the box deflected off him and into the net to hand Vissel all three points with 10 minutes to go.

The loss leaves Urawa in seventh on the J League ladder as they look to bounce back when they host mid-table side Oita Trinita on Saturday night.

Elsewhere in Japan, Mitch Langerak kept a clean sheet in Nagoya Grampus’ 1-0 victory over league-leaders Kawasaki Frontale - who hadn't been beaten since February - as his side moved one point behind Cerezo Osaka into third.

Nagoya are back in action against mid-table side Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo on Saturday night as they look to close the nine point gap on top position.

Boyle’s team will hope to continue their impressive form next Monday morning when they host mid-table side Aberdeen.

In Belgium, Danny Vukovic was back between the sticks and kept a clean sheet as Genk played out their second draw of the season in a scoreless encounter with second placed Standard Liège on Sunday night.

Elsewhere in Europe, Milos Degenek put in another full shift for FK Crvena Zvezda on Saturday as they ground out a 1-0 victory against FK Proleter Novi Sad.

Degenek will be back in action against mid-table side FK TSC Bačka Topola next Monday morning.

Over to the Saudi Professional League where Craig Goodwin played 77 minutes for Al-Wehda as they recorded a 4-2 victory over bottom of the table side Al-Adalah FC on Friday night.

Al-Wehda will look to close the three-point gap on third position when they host mid-table side Al-Taawoun FC on Wednesday morning.

In the K-League, it was a disappointing Saturday night for Adam Taggart and Terry Antonis as Suwon Bluewings lost 1-0 to bottom placed Incheon United.
