Aussies Abroad Preview: Boyle and Irvine prepare for Scottish Cup semi as Socceroos face off in Japan

In Aussies Abroad action this weekend, Mitch Langerak and Adam Taggart will be facing off for the first time in the J.League while Martin Boyle and Jackson Irvine have a Scottish Cup semi-final to look forward to.

A mammoth clash awaits Irvine and Boyle’s Hibernian as they go head to head against Dundee United in their Scottish Cup semi-final clash at Hampden Park on Saturday.

A penalty shootout triumph sealed their passage into this fixture a fortnight ago but that was sandwiched in between a poor defeat against St. Johnstone in the league.

If they claim the victory, they could meet St. Johnstone or St. Mirren in the final.

We will have two Socceroos facing off in Japan as Langerak’s Nagoya Grampus entertain Taggart’s Cerezo Osaka on Saturday afternoon.

Langerak’s side have been dealt a reality check in their last two fixtures, going down twice to leaders Kawasaki Frontale.

They remain in second on the ladder but their lead has been cut to just three points with third placed Sagan Tosu possessing a game in hand over the Aussie’s side.

Meanwhile, Taggart played 40 minutes in his Cerezo debut as they registered a 1-1 stalemate in their derby against Gamba.

The Socceroos striker is still building towards full fitness but he could prove to be a handful for his fellow Aussie come Saturday.

Brad Smith will be looking to build upon his eye-catching start to the season for Seattle Sounders when they take on fierce rivals Portland Timbers in the MLS on Sunday night.

The Socceroos defender has been named in consecutive MLS team of the weeks due to his newfound goalscoring touch which has seen him get on the scoresheet in his past two appearances.

In the English Premier League, Maty Ryan could be between the sticks for Arsenal as they host West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

The Socceroos shot stopper picked up his first clean sheet for the Gunners as they secured a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United last weekend.

A top of the table clash awaits Awer Mabil as his Midtjylland travel to first placed Brondby on Sunday in the Danish Superligaen.

Mabil had an almost instant impact off the bench in their 3-0 win last time out as he provided the assist for their final goal.

Meanwhile, Zach Duncan will be hoping to add some more minutes under his belt when AGF Aarhus meet Randers.

The final matchday of the Championship is upon us which means it will be the last time to see our two Aussies in action.

Harry Souttar’s campaign ends at the Vitality Stadium against Bournemouth. A top half finish is out of the question for Stoke but they could still dampen the Cherries’ camp ahead of their playoffs.

In the Bundesliga, Ajdin Hrustic’s Eintracht Frankfurt return to action against Mainz on Sunday.

Brandon Borrello will be looking to make it two goals in as many appearances as his Fortuna Dusseldorf host Eintracht Braunschweig in the 2. Bundesliga on Saturday.

The Aussie winger came off the bench to score his maiden goal for Dusseldorf in their 3-2 win against Karlsruher on Monday night.

In some unfortunate news, James Jeggo's season could be over after he sustained an injury in his side's 1-1 draw with Olympiacos on Wednesday night.

The celebrations may already be in full swing for Milos Degenek’s Crvena Zvezda but they still have three matches left on the calendar before the Serbian SuperLiga season finishes.

His side sealed their fourth straight title last week before backing that up with a 2-2 stalemate against Rad Beograd on Wednesday night.

Their next fixture will see them face off against low-lying Zlatibor on Sunday.

Heading to League One where Bailey Wright’s Sunderland have a date with Northampton in the final round of the regular season.

The Black Cats are already guaranteed a playoff spot but could switch places with fifth placed Lincoln if they fail to get the job done against Northampton and Lincoln claim victory in their match.

Kenny Dougall and his Blackpool are sitting pretty in third as they prepare for a home tie against the already relegated Bristol Rovers.

A win would tie up third place for them but depending on results elsewhere, they could finish as low as fifth.

Next up on the agenda for Turkish-based Aziz Behich is a home tie against Gaziantep on Saturday.

His Kayserispor are undefeated in their last two league matches but that has by no means guaranteed them safety with just one point and one place separating them from the relegation zone.

Aaron Mooy scored a screamer for Shanghai Port as they were held to a 1-1 draw in their derby against Shanghai Shenhua on Wednesday night.

The Socceroos midfielder made a solo run from midway in Shenhua’s half before unleashing a pile driver that flew into the top corner.

His stunning strike did not turn out to be the winning goal with their rivals raining on their parade when they equalised from the penalty spot in second half stoppage time.

A point is enough to see his side stay top of the table ahead of their Tuesday night encounter with Changchun Yatai.
