Aussies Abroad: Irvine's brilliant brace for Hull City

Jackson Irvine had only scored two goals in 40 appearances for Hull City before this mornings 3-2 win over Rotherham United.

Championship: Irvine strikes rare double

Jackson Irvine's pair of first-time back post finishes highlighted the midfielder's exceptional movement off the ball and ability to spring forward from midfield.

His first goal cancelled out Richard Wood's opener for Rotherham, and displayed excellent technique to steer Evandro Goebel’s cross in at the near post with a deft volley.

Irvine's second saw him sprint forward from midfield after a Rotherham turnover and bury Jarrod Bowen's pass with a confident first time finish.

Irvine’s double came against Australian colleague Ryan Williams, who started the match and played an hour for Rotherham.

Elsewhere in the Championship, it was another unhappy occasion for Massimo Luongo’s Queens Park Rangers, who were beaten 3-0 at home by Bristol City. That result followed their 7-1 loss at the hands of West Bromwich Albion on the weekend.

In League One, Kenny Dougall continued his strong start for Barnsley in a 4-0 win over Rochdale. Ryan McGowan’s Bradford City also picked up three points in a 1-0 win over Burton Albion.

Stalemate for Degenek in UEFA Champions League qualifying

Over in Serbia, Milos Degenek’s Red Star Belgrade drew 0-0 with Red Bull Salzburg in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League qualifying tie.

Degenek has kept four clean sheets out of six in his side's UEFA Champions League campaign so far and came close to netting a second half match winner, but could not direct a free header past Salzburg goalkeeper Cican Stanković.

There were better fortunes for Trent Sainsbury’s PSV Eindhoven, who had to come from behind to snatch a 3-2 win at BATE Borisov. Sainsbury was not included in the PSV squad and will be hoping for a debut appearance this Sunday morning against Zwolle.
