Melbourne Victory striker Danny Allsopp is set to miss the Australia Day clash against Sydney FC, after he received a one-match ban for his red card in Sunday's loss to Perth Glory.

Allsopp was shown a straight red by referee Peter Green for his 77th minute challenge on Glory midfielder Steve Pantelidis, and on Monday afternoon the independent Match Review Panel found the Victory striker guilty of "serious foul play".

With Carlos Hernandez still in doubt for the midweek clash, the ban is a blow for victory, chasing a much-needed win against their rivals, although with archie thompson, Harry Kewell and Jean Carlos Solorzano still available, coach Jim Magilton is not short of attacking options.

Melbourne Victory have until midday Tuesday to lodge an appeal on the grounds of "exceptional circumstances".
