All Stars to demonstrate A-League's growth

PARRAMATTA | The Foxtel A-League All Stars have begun to work on their tactical plan for Saturday's showdown at ANZ Stadium and the players are enthused by what's in store.

Coach Ange Postecoglou has preached an attacking, vibrant brand of football since he first made an impression in the Hyundai A-League with Brisbane Roar and according to the All Stars, it'll be more of the same against Manchester United.

"I think just the way Ange plays football in the Hyundai A-League is what he's trying to do for us now," said midfielder Michael McGlinchey.

"It's good that we're playing with some of the best players in the Hyundai A-League, it's coming quicker than normal.

"It's a passing game, I think he wants to play through the lines and pass as much as possible."

Saturday's match will provide a fitting showcase of the growth of Australia's domestic competition in recent years.

Much like the Young Socceroos showed in Turkey recently, there is more to the modern Australian game than some of the qualities that have typified Australian football in the past and the Hyundai A-League is reflective of this.

"Getting players from overseas into this league, it's definitely a boost and helped the quality of the Hyundai A-League," said attacker David Williams.

"It's definitely promoted it to be a better league than what others around the world might think.

"To match it against some of the big European teams will definitely help Australian football, help the Hyundai A-League and help it to grow in Australia."

The Foxtel A-League All Stars will debut against Manchester United at ANZ Stadium, Sydney, on 20 July with the match to be broadcast live and exclusive on the Seven Network nationally.
