AAMI Park comeback continues Glory's incredible away day record

It looked for over 80 minutes like an astonishing cornerstone of Perth Glory's exceptional campaign would finally lose some of its lustre on Sunday.

Jamie Maclaren's first-half brace at AAMI Park handed underdogs Melbourne City a two-goal advantage that began to look insurmountable as the final five minutes of normal time approached.

That despite the visitors - unbeaten in their previous 11 outings - playing against a team winless in five games and missing three first-choice defenders.

But this Perth side is not prone to such slip-ups. And especially not away from home.

Joel Chianese gave the game life in the 84th minute before Diego Castro deceived Eugene Galekovic with a swerving strike in stoppage time to salvage a dramatic 2-2 draw.

The fightback secured Tony Popovic's team a six-point lead at the top and added yet more depth to an extraordinary set of statistics accrued across their 21 matches.

Chianese and Castro combined to ensure a defiant Glory are now unbeaten in all 10 away matches this term, with six road victories and four draws accounting for 22 of their 48 points.

Realistically, the late rally should have come as no surprise: Perth picked their moment to land a one-two punch that means they have netted 14 goals in the final 15 minutes of matches this season, a league-high.

And their recent history in this particular fixture is nothing short of dominant.

The Western Australian outfit have won six, drawn three and lost just one of the past 10 meetings between the teams, while they have not succumbed to City at AAMI Park since April 2016.

It's become obvious that, even at two goals down and with the spectre of defeat looming large, the numbers are simply in Perth's favour this season.
