Young Socceroos on track for semis despite Malaysia defeat

The Young Socceroos remain in the box seat for a Semi Final berth at the 2019 AFF U-18 Championship despite losing to Malaysia on Tuesday night.

After winning their first three matches of the group stage, Gary van Egmond’s side went down 3-0 at a sweltering Thanh Long Stadium.

All three goals came in the first half, with speedy striker Luqman Hakim Shamsudin scoring either side of Muhammad Azam Murad’s goal from a corner.

Despite the loss, Australia will reach the Semi Finals if they win their final match against Singapore on Thursday.

With a strong goal difference, a draw in that match is also likely to be enough for the Young Socceroos to advance.
