Yallop sets 'precious moment' aside in pursuit of Roar wins

Tameka Yallop has had little time to reflect on scoring her 50th goal for Brisbane Roar against Melbourne Victory last weekend.

Instead, she's looking ahead to her side's clash with Western Sydney Wanderers as the Roar look to notch their first points of the Westfield W-League campaign on Thursday evening.

Yallop scored the landmark goal in her first game in Brisbane colours after a one-season stint at Melbourne City, finishing off a delightful team move with a neat finish beyond Casey Dumont in Victory’s goal.

But her 50th Roar goal ultimately came to nothing as Brisbane fell to a 3-2 defeat on the night.

Yallop says despite the satisfaction of reaching the personal milestone, her attention has already turned to her side’s bumper clash with the Wanderers.

“I didn’t actually realise at the time it was my 50th goal, but finding out afterwards it was a special moment,” Yallop said.

"It’s good to see how far you’ve come and the things you’ve done, but next week has come around already so I’ve got to look forward as well.

“I’ll take those precious moments and keep moving forward.”

Yallop’s first 49 Roar goals came from 108 games before her departure to City for the 2018/19 Westfield W-League campaign.

Returning to Brisbane after her one-season absence, Yallop has come back to a very different Roar squad led by new boss Jake Goodship.

Goodship took over from the successful reign of Championship-winning coach Mel Andreatta.

“It’s a good challenge for any coach to step into a W-League role and play in a quick and exciting league,” Yallop said.

“Jake (Goodship) is with us now, he’s got one game under his belt and tomorrow he’ll have another one.

“He’s great, he’s vocal, he likes to sort things out and he’s very tactical, we’re all like that as well so we really enjoy it.

“We’re all pretty happy, and we’re moving forward.”

Yallop and the Roar host a high-flying Wanderers side who have taken maximum point from their first two games.

After a first-round bye the Roar sit in seventh place but a win tomorrow night will catapult them right back into the fray, and Yallop will be determined to add goal number 51 to her tally to help her side make it happen.

Brisbane host Western Sydney at Lions Stadium tomorrow night (7:30pm AEDT).
