Yallop: 'It was a good hit out for us'

There are plenty of positives for the Westfield Matildas to draw from their 3-0 defeat to the Netherlands on Sunday morning (AEST), says Tameka Yallop.

Ante Milicic's side offered a spirited performance in front of a raucous 30,640-strong crowd at Eindhoven's Philips Stadion, but were ultimately undone by some clinical finishing from the European Champions.

However, Yallop believes there were several positive signs for Australia, and said the defeat would not cause the Westfield Matildas to reign in their style of football ahead of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France.

"I think there are a few things that we can tidy up with set pieces and what not, but I think we tried to play our game and our style of football and we are going to keep pursuing that," Yallop told www.matildas.com.au.

"It was good to play in front of a crowd like that as well, we are not the home team and we will be playing in France under similar conditions, so I think it was a good hit out for us."

“I think there are a lot of positives that we can take from the game as well," Yallop continued.

"We kept pretty good possession, maybe we need to be a little bit more clinical in the final third, myself included, so there are a couple of things that we will work on.

"There are always negatives and positives that you can take from a game, but as I said tidying up a few set pieces and I think we will have more control.”
