With just two weeks to go until the start of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, midfielder Tameka Yallop feels there is plenty of improvement left in the Westfield Matildas.
Ante Milicic’s squad have been hard at work in Antalya, Turkey as they gear up for their opening Group C match against Italy on June 9.
Before that opening FIFA Women’s World Cup match, the side will play a vital warm-up match against the Netherlands in Eindhoven next week.
“I think any game is exciting for us especially once you are in camp and you are training, and we are training towards our first game at the World Cup,” Yallop told www.matildas.com.au.
“But it’s nice to have a good hit out in between then and the girls are definitely looking forward to it (the Netherlands fixture).”
Yallop, who is currently playing her club football with Klepp in Norway, is heading to her third FIFA Women’s World Cup after being a part of the 2011 tournament in Germany as well as in Canada four years ago.

“Both previous World Cups that I have been to feel pretty different. One was in Germany, it was in Europe so it was grass-based, and Canada was turf, which was quite different,” she said.
“I am looking forward to getting back on the grass and also in Europe, which is where I have been playing club [football], so for me it is less of a transition.
“I think the atmosphere is going to come at us in France and will be pretty similar to Germany, but the women’s game has gotten so much bigger as well since then, so I am excited for it.”
