Qantas Socceroo Rhys Williams is preaching a fearless approach to Australia-s remaining FIFA World Cup qualifiers with one simple message - ‘we are Australia-.
Recently unveiled as captain of club side Middlesbrough in England-s Championship competition, Williams is confident that Australia-s quality will rise above the challenge of their tough qualification group.
“Yeah, it-s hard but, I-ve said this before - we are Australia,” said Williams.
“Everyone expects us to win and we-re no different, we shouldn-t have any excuses getting out of this group.
“Who we play, it shouldn-t matter, we are Australia, we play to win and we should get out of this group with no problems and onto the FIFA World Cup.
“It-s definitely difficult with all the away games and stuff but, we go into every game wanting to win and having the desire to win.
“Hopefully we can carry that on and make our way towards Brazil.”
Williams and his Qantas Socceroo team-mates will take their next steps en route to Brazil in Amman, Jordan next month.
Another away date against Iraq will follow in October before the Qantas Socceroos return home to Sydney-s Stadium Australia to take on Oman.
The Oman clash, on 26 March, will mark Australia-s first fixture on home soil in nine months and needless to say, Williams is determined to ‘put on a show- for Qantas Socceroo supporters.
“I-m looking forward to getting back (to Australia), obviously we love playing at home in front of a home crowd and trying to excite them to bring more and more people to watch us,” said Williams.
“As long as we do our job with the away games, I think the home games are ours to lose.
“When we go home, we can-t wait to play and, put on a show.”
