When does the Hyundai A-League start?

The Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season is drawing closer with clubs finalising preparations for their tilt at the title.

It's set to be a stellar seven months in the top flight with big-name foreign marquees, quality domestic signings and a catalogue of canny coaches giving all 10 teams belief they can go all the way.

When is the first match of the season?

Round 1 begins when Adelaide United host Sydney FC in a rematch of last year's FFA Cup Final at Coopers Stadium on October 19.

Melbourne Victory and their marquee man Keisuke Honda meet Melbourne City in a blockbuster derby the following day while the remaining six clubs all commence their campaigns on October 21.

Which are the must-see matches and when are they?

There are plenty of intriguing story-lines set to simmer throughout the season.

In addition to the heated Melbourne and Sydney derbies, and the always gripping Big Blue, notable fixtures this season include the Grand Final rematch on November 3 and Tony Popovic's first visit to former club Western Sydney Wanderers on February 24.

When does the Finals Series begin?

The top six clubs on the ladder all qualify for the post-season Finals Series.

The do-or-die drama typically begins a week after Round 27, which is due to conclude with Perth Glory hosting Wellington Phoenix on April 28.
