Westfield Matilda Elise Kellond-Knight undergoes successful ACL surgery

Westfield Matildas stalwart Elise Kellond-Knight has undergone a successful surgery to repair her anterior cruciate ligament and begans the road to recovery. 

Midfielder Elise Kellond-Knight has confirmed she has undergone knee reconstruction surgery after rupturing her ACL while playing in Sweden.

The 29-year-old was only minutes into her first Damallsvenskan match of the season when she sustained the injury.


It is the second time Kellond-Knight has suffered an ACL injury after a similar setback in 2011 while on loan to Danish club Fortuna Hjørring

"Well that sucks. Confirmed ACL," Kellond-Knight said on Twitter.

 

"The last 12 months were already the toughest by far... but looks like things can always get worse.

"Finding appreciation for other things in my life. Football can be the cruelest, yet we still love it."

Fellow Westfield Matildas have thrown their support behind Kellond-Knight with words of encouragement and reassurance on social media.


"You’ll crush a 3rd !!" said team captain Sam Kerr.  While Kellond-Knight's former Brisbane Roar teammate Hayley Raso sent through her well wishes, saying “stay strong KK, lots of love.”

Ellie Carpenter hoped Kellond-Knight wouln’t be sidelined for too long, saying “Sending love KK. Hoping for a speedy recovery.”

And fellow midfielder and long time friend Tameka Yallop commented, “here for you fwend and thinking of you.”

Kellond-Knight is currently in Sweden and will commence the rehabilitation side as she works to return to the Westfield Matildas.
