Wellington Phoenix have won their first FFA Cup game in over six years after defeating Western United in Geelong on Tuesday night. 

Ben Waine proved the match winner, scoring the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win for the Phoenix at GMHBA Stadium. 

It was Wellington's first win in the FFA Cup since their Round of 32 victory over Central Coast Mariners back in 2015.

Ufuk Talay's side will now face Avondale FC on Tuesday night at ABD Stadium in the Round of 16.
