Matildas striker Sam Kerr has found herself very much the centre of attention this week, after scoring all of Australia’s goals in their 4-1 FIFA Women’s World Cup™ victory over Jamaica on Wednesday.

That win clinched second place in Group C for Ante Milicic’s side, setting up a Round of 16 clash with former world champions Norway on Sunday morning (AEST) and ensuring Kerr found herself making headlines around the world.

But despite her whirlwind week, the in-demand 25-year-old found time to sit down with matildas.com.au to reflect on her achievement of becoming the first Australian to score a hat-trick at a FIFA World Cup.

“I was just happy to help the team out, and headers are my favourite goals so I was pretty stoked with them."

"With all the hype and everything that was going on I just forgot about it. When I got the ball I kind of had a moment to myself and thought ‘this will be something I’ll remember for the rest of my life’...

The first Aussie to score a goal at the World Cup, so it’s a pretty special moment."

“I grew up watching Timmy Cahill. He’s an Australian legend. He’s the most famous and prolific goalscorer who’s played for Australia.

Hopefully I can be half the player and goalscorer he was."
