It was not the result they were craving, but there was no doubting the pride felt by the four Caltex Socceroos debutants in last week’s friendly against Korea Republic.

Brandon O’Neill, Andrew Redmayne, Brandon Borrello and Ryan Williams all made their first senior international appearance in the Green and Gold in the 1-0 defeat in Busan.

It was an unforgettable occasion for the quartet, who were rewarded by coach Graham Arnold for their perseverance and excellent form at club level.

And to make the occasion even more special, the quartet were presented signed jerseys in a private ceremony with teammates and Caltex Socceroos staff at the team hotel after the match.

O’Neill, Redmayne and Borrello were handed their jerseys by skipper Aziz Behich, while Rhys Williams was on hand to present younger brother Ryan with his special memento.

“I was there when Rhys made his debut, it was a massive day for the family and ever since that day this is all I’ve ever known. And it’s come true now,” Ryan said on receiving his jersey.

After overcoming a serious knee injury suffered in April last year to come back and earn his first international cap, Borrello added: “I’m super proud of this moment.

“It’s been a rough year for me but to end it like we did, or I have, I can’t thank you guys enough for welcoming me into the [Socceroos] family.”

The quartet weren’t the only players to receive a special jersey after the match, with midfielder Mustafa Amini swapping shirts with Korean superstar Son Heung-Min.

Amini met up with the Tottenham Hotspur attacker in the tunnel after the match for a selfie and to exchange shirts with the Korea Republic skipper.
