Adelaide United 2-3 Sydney FC

The Hyundai A-League 2019/20 Season kicked into gear with a back-and-forth thriller at Coopers Stadium on Friday night.

The reigning Champions saw let a two-goal lead slip away before Ryan Strain saw red and new Sky Blues recruit Ryan McGowan made it a debut to remember with a late winner.

Western Sydney Wanderers 2-1 Central Coast Mariners

Mitchell Duke’s double launched the Bankwest Stadium era as the Red and Black make an emotional return to Wanderland three years after leaving Parramatta.

New Mariner Milan Duric announced himself with a rocket to crash the party but Duke flipped the game, scoring late after VAR overturned a ‘no penalty’ decision.

Melbourne Victory 0-0 Melbourne City

A highly-anticipated Melbourne derby had no shortage of intensity but remained locked in front of 33,000 plus fans at Marvel Stadium.

New coaches Marco Kurz and Erick Mombaerts battled for supremecy but, after Elvis Kamsoba’s goal was ruled offside, neither team could break the deadlock.

Wellington Phoenix 0-1 Western United

History was made as the Hyundai A-League newcomers walked away from Westpac Stadium with all three points in their inaugural match.

Besart Berisha was the Victorians’ hero, as the Hyundai A-League’s all-time top goalscorer added one more to his tally on his return to Australian football.

Perth Glory 1-1 Brisbane Roar

Premiers Perth Glory looked all set to pick up where the left off in 2018/19 when Chris Ikonomidis fired Tony Popovic’s men into a first-half lead.

But a dramatic late strike from Roy O’Donovan kick-started the Robbie Fowler reign with a valuable point on the road for the Queenslanders.
