Canada World Cup striker Christina Julien says she has been impressed by the quality of the W-League ahead of her debut for Perth Glory against Newcastle on Saturday.
The 25-year-old signed a short-term seven-game contract with the Glory after getting in contact with coach Jamie Harnwell as the recommendation of Team Canada coach John Herdman.
Julien is one of several overseas players to join the W-League this season, with reigning European player of the year Nadine Angerer (Brisbane Roar), USA midfielder Lori Lindsey and countrywomen Stephanie Ochs and Kendall Fletcher (Canberra United) all set to make their debuts this weekend.
Having played professionally in Sweden and Russia, Julien is hoping to make a big impact over the coming weeks in a bid to earn a more permanent contract next season.
"I was talking with John Herdman, the head coach of the national team, and he's from New Zealand obviously and he recommended coming over to Australia because he knows it's great soccer and a great league," Julien told Sportal.
"So I got in contact with Jamie and he decided to give me a look and gave me a guest pass and next thing I know I was in Australia.
"It's amazing, the country's phenomenal, a lot of uniqueness to it and it's got a very big North American flavour to it and it's just been honestly amazing."
Asked her goals for the next seven games, Julien said: "To be honest I hope that I get a call back for next season.
"Hopefully Jamie gets to know me as a player more and really likes what he sees and gives me a chance to get back out here.
"Since I was 12 going to Australia has been on my bucket list so I'm super excited to be here, I feel like a kid in a candy store with everything and it's just an amazing experience."
Pressed on the standard of the W-League, the experienced striker replied: "Our team plays quality soccer.
"Just from the way our team connects and the connection we've made on the field and the style of play and the quality of play you can see that it's a very good league and everyone on our team can play a great game of soccer.
"I honestly came in with no expectations and I've been amazed and I think it's a great league and I'm excited to get started."
