Brisbane Roar v Canberra United Saturday 9 November 2013 AJ Kelly Fields Local kick-off: 3pm (4pm AEDT)

The opening day of the Westfield W-League season begins in epic fashion as two-time champs Brisbane Roar welcome 2012 queens Canberra United to the sunshine state. Both clubs have upped the ante even further this season with an impressive array of recruits boosting what were already strong rosters. This indeed promises to a classic match-up, and a snapshot of what undoubtedly will be another jump in on-field quality in the Westfield W-League.

Brisbane Roar have strengthened with Westfield Matildas defender Kim Carroll back from injury and turbo-charged youngster Hayley Raso returning to her home state. Much focus though will be on Germany goalkeeper Nadine Angerer as the reigning European Player of the Year makes her Westfield W-League bow. The Roar are set to have a full squad at their disposal and with depth in every position they have plenty of options off the bench.

Canberra United travel to Brisbane buoyed by the own high-profile international recruits. The attacking duo of Michelle Heyman and Stephanie Ochs in concert with American compatriot Lori Lindsey could prove to be a highlight of the coming season. Canberra have their own reliable star between the sticks in the form of Westfield Matildas- Lydia Williams who also returns after a year out. Midfielder Sally Shipard, however, is still a few weeks away from full fitness.
