A meeting of the FIFA Council in Miami has declared that the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) will be in place for all matches at the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019tm.

A short statement on FIFA’s website explained that VAR had been added to tournament regulations for the quadrennial event after the “resounding success at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™."
Australian fans will be familiar with the system after its implementation in the Hyundai A-League for the past two seasons as well as the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russiatm where the Caltex Socceroos were awarded a penalty via VAR in their Group C match against Denmark for a handball what was previously missed by the referee.
The Westfield Matildas are in Group C alongside Brazil, Italy and Jamaica.
