Both sides enter the contest having never won the continental tournament, ensuring a little piece of history will be created Monday morning, Australian time.

Sam Kerr has the chance to become the second Australian woman to earn a winner’s medal after Ellie Carpenter did so with Lyon last season.

She’ll also become the third Aussie woman to play in a final after Alison Forman and Sharon Black played for Fortuna Hjørring when they went down to Umeå 7-1 over two legs in 2003.

Chelsea enter the match after claiming the FA WSL title last weekend with a 5-0 win over Reading. It is Chelsea's first time in the final of the UEFA Women's Champions League and for Kerr, being a part of history is important to her and the team.

"I think whenever you're doing something that hasn't been done before, it's extra special. So for us, it's a really proud moment. We're the first Chelsea women's team to get to the final. So it's a special moment, but we haven't won anything yet. So it's special, but we've still got more to go." Kerr told media after the Blues' FA WSL triumph.

The Westfield Matilda's captain won the Golden Boot for the season with 21 goals in 22 games while goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger was awarded the Golden Gloves, and Fran Kirby named the Football Writers’ Association’s Women’s Footballer of the Year.

It was Chelsea’s third piece of silverware so far this season having earned the Community Shield and Conti Cup in addition to the league title.

Barcelona also wrapped up the Liga Iberdrola title last weekend, winning with five games to play.

This Barca side has been unstoppable, having won every league match with a goal difference of +123. Having secured the league, Barcelona are also still alive in the Copa de la Reina, with a semi-final in that competition coming up.

For Kerr, Barcelona present a tough test but one that she believes her Chelsea side can overcome.

"Looking at our team, we're electric going forward. I think, on the counter attack, we're super, super quick. So I think that's going to have to work in our favour against Barcelona, but they're a quality team." said Kerr.

"So we definitely have to have a look at them in depth and we'll focus on ourselves, but we also have to respect their strengths and weaknesses."

Barcelona is familiar with the UEFA Women’s Champions League final stage having made it to the last game in the tournament once before; they lost 4-1 to Olympique Lyonnais.

These two champion sides will face off with Australian fans being able to tune in on SBS and SBS On Demand. Coverage starts from 4:30am AEST with kick off at 5am AEST.
