Two E-League stars into FIFA eWorld Cup qualifier

E-League stars Marcus Gomes and Mark ‘xMarkoHD’ Brijeski have qualified for the Spring FUT Cup where they compete for a place in the FIFA eWorld Cup.

Melbourne City’s Gomes and Sydney FC’s xMarkoHD confirmed their spots after finishing in the top 64 players on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 across the world following a month-long FIFA Ultimate Team Champions Cup qualifying process.

After 160 games – 40 matches over four weekends – Gomes finished as 25th best Xbox player with 156 wins, while xMarkoHD secured the 26th PlayStation ranking with 155 victories.

Both Australians will now compete at the Spring FUT Cup in April where the top eight players from each console will earn a place at the FIFA eWorld Cup in August.

Sydney FC and xMarkoHD have started the E-League in strong form with two wins, but the PlayStation star was in disbelief that he managed to qualify for the EA event.

Gazza Predicts: Round 3 Results

“I still can’t believe I qualified and I’m hopefully looking to do well at the tournament,” he told A-League.com.au.

For Gomes, this won’t be his first FIFA eWorld Cup qualifier after recently participating at the Barcelona event.

He will be looking to carry his emphatic E-League form – spurred by an “incredible” comeback win in Round 2 – into the Spring FUT Cup tournament.

Both players will be in action in E-League Round 3 on Thursday night from 8pm AEDT. Watch the games on the E-League Twitch channel or Fox Sports Digital.
