Newcastle Jets captain Ruben Zadkovich has been linked to Championship side Millwall after meeting with the English Championship club following the completion of the EAFF East Asian Cup with the Socceroos.

With the 27-year-old having two years left on his contract and Newcastle not wanting to lose their captain the deal looks all but straight forward.

It is believed that Millwall have yet to put in a bid for Zadkovich but if they did it would have to be of significant value to convince the Jets to let one of their key players go with little time to recruit a replacement before the season commences.

Zadkovich played 26 games for the Jets in the 2012-13 season with his performances earning him a call up to Holger Osieck's EAFF Cup squad.

Early in his career he spent time with Queens Park Rangers and Notts County before returning to the A-League where he made 40 appearances for Sydney FC between 2006 and 2008.

Obviously feeling at home in England, he returned to play for Derby County in the Championship but made limited appearances before returning home to take up a contract with the Newcastle Jets.

The midfielder would be the third Australian on Millwall's books after new manager Steve Lomas brought Scott McDonald to the club in the past fortnight to join first-team regular Shane Lowry.

Millwall have a rich tradition of blooding Australian talent with Lucas Neill and Tim Chaill both having stints with the club before going on to bigger and better things.
