Melbourne Heart is leading the race to sign Socceroos midfielder Aaron Mooy, who reportedly wants to leave Western Sydney Wanderers.

Fairfax media have reported that the new Melbourne Heart consortium are set to cherry pick the best young talent from the Hyundai A-League and have placed the 23 year old on their wishlist.

Mooy, who is an attacking midfielder, has struggled for match time this season, with Japanese marquee Shinji Ono preferred in the position.

The silky midfielder has made 37 appearances with the Wanderers over the past two seasons, scoring 3 goals.

There has been speculation surrounding Mooy-s future throughout this January window, who has also been linked with the Newcastle Jets amid reports he had placed a transfer request.

The speculation hasn-t affected they youngsters form in any way, as he was named man of the match for his role in yesterday-s 3-1 win over Perth.
