Del Piero, who has made over 500 Serie A appearances for Juventus and is an Italian football legend, stunned the football world when he signed a two-year deal with Hyundai A-League outfit Sydney FC on Wednesday.
And Totti, who is also a hero of the Serie A after a 20-year stint at Roma that is still going, declared that he was "very happy" with Del Piero's move Down Under.
"Well done Alex," Totti posted on his official website.
"I've today been told that you will start a new adventure with Australian side Sydney. I'm very happy. Challenges for a champion like you never come to an end.
"Your ability and your way of being is the best possible advert for Italy across the world. I wish you good luck."
Totti played international football with Del Piero, including the 2006 FIFA World Cup in which Italy won in Germany.
