Goalkeepers

  • Filip Kurto – Western United FC, 70
  • Lawrence Thomas – Melbourne Victory, 70
  • Jamie Young – Brisbane Roar, 69
  • Paul Izzo – Adelaide United, 67
  • Stefan Marinovic – Wellington Phoenix, 67

After a sensational debut season in the Hyundai A-League with Wellington Phoenix last season, Polish gloveman Filip Kurto is now among the finest keepers to pick from.

Kurto’s overall rating has jumped up five points from last year, taking him level with Victory shot-stopper Lawrence Thomas.

Roar’s Jamie Young comes in third, ahead of Paul Izzo and new Phoenix keeper Stefan Marinovic in equal fourth.

Defenders

  • Alex Wilkinson – Sydney FC, 72
  • Josh Risdon – Western United FC, 71
  • Rhyan Grant – Sydney FC, 70
  • Tim Hoogland – Melbourne Victory, 70
  • Richard Windbichler – Melbourne City, 70

He was top of the pops for defenders last season and evergreen Sydney FC centre-back Alex Wilkinson continues to lead the way for the men at the back.

He edges out Western United’s Josh Risdon and Sydney teammate Rhyan Grant, while Hyundai A-League newcomers Tim Hoogland and Richard Windbichler complete the top five.

Midfielders

  • Diego Castro – Perth Glory, 76
  • Alessandro Diamanti – Western United FC, 76
  • Milos Ninkovic – Sydney FC, 75
  • Pirmin Schwegler – Western Sydney Wanderers, 74
  • Panagiotis Kone – Western United FC, 72

Perth Glory skipper Diego Castro and Italian star Alessandro Diamanti are the leading midfielders heading into the new Hyundai A-League season.

It’s no surprise that Sydney FC playmaker Milos Ninkovic has also rated highly, while new Wanderers midfielder Pirmin Schwegler is also in the top five.

The list couldn’t be complete without Western United FC’s marquee signing Panagiotis Kone.

Forwards

  • Ola Toivonen – Melbourne Victory, 76
  • Bruno Fornaroli – Perth Glory, 74
  • Chris Ikonomidis - Perth Glory, 72
  • Kosta Barbarouses – Sydney FC, 71
  • Robbie Kruse – Melbourne Victory, 71

Ola Toivonen is the standout striker this year, sitting a couple of points ahead of Uruguayan star Bruno Fornaroli.

Chris Ikonomidis’ speed and eye for goal make him a tasty proposition as well, while Kosta Barbarouses will have a point to prove on his move from Victory to the Sky Blues.

The man who replaced Barbarouses at Victory – Caltex Socceroo Robbie Kruse – completes the top five and might prove a good pick-up with his experience and class in the front third.
