Sydney FC boss Corica sets points target for ACL progression

Steve Corica believes Sydney FC can progress into the knockout stages of the 2019 AFC Champions League with four points from their remaining two fixtures.

The Sky Blues are bottom of Group H following Tuesday evening’s thrilling 2-2 draw with Chinese champions Shanghai SIPG.

Next up for the Hyundai A-League club is a daunting away trip to Ulsan Hyundai on Tuesday, 7 May, where Sydney will likely need a win to remain in contention.

Corica hinted that he will be making that visit to South Korea to face the group leaders their priority over the next fortnight.

"We're going to go there with a strong squad to win the game because I believe that we can still qualify with one win and maybe a draw, or two wins," Corica said.

"Both (competitions) are very important but we will be concentrating on the Champions League next game."

Sydney FC relinquished their 1-0 half time advantage early in the second against Shanghai but a superb glancing header from Adam Le Fondre ensured their third draw in four 2019 ACL matches.

"I'm very proud of our boys for the effort and for keeping going,” Corica said.

"They've showed great character in both games against them to have fantastic performances."
