New Sydney FC signing Ranko Despotovic has described his move to play with the Sky Blues as “perfect”.

The Serbian international has trained with his new teammates all week and is in contention to feature against Wellington Phoenix at Allianz Stadium tomorrow (5.30pm kick off).

The striker is also excited about the prospect at linking up with legendary Italian footballer Alessandro Del Piero up front.

“When I was a kid I was a great fan of his and he-s a great, great player,” said the Serb.

“I don-t know about here in Australia but in Europe he is a great star and being just next to him in the squad is a great feeling.

“Playing with a great star in a good league like this one it-s perfect,” he continued.

“When you are a striker and you have Alessandro behind you, you don-t need to have any fear.”

The 30 year old has visited Australia before when playing for the Serbian national team against the Socceroos in 2011, but has been even more impressed by the welcome he has received this time, and by Sydney FC since his arrival.

“My impressions of this club are really good, fantastic and I hope that we can fight for Championship this year.

“I have one Australian friend and he was speaking about the Hyundai A-League and I heard all beautiful things about it, and now I have arrived here it-s really, really great.”

“Despo” is likely to be on the bench for tomorrow-s game against the Nix but is hoping he gets his chance.

“I hope my club wins this weekend and if I can be part of this spectacle it will be perfect,” he said.
