Sulav Maskey wins FFA Cup Goal of the Year

Hellenic Athletic Club’s Sulav Maskey has won the inaugural FFA Cup Goal of the Year following his stunning equaliser against Western Sydney Wanderers.

Fans voted unanimously in favour of Maskey’s goal in the round-of-32 encounter -  and for good reason.

Maskey latched onto a perfectly weighted through ball and then, with his first touch, the former U19 Nepal skipper chipped the ball over an onrushing Danijel Nizic to spark wild celebrations.

Perhaps more impressive, however, was the context in which the goal was scored.

Hellenic AC had previously trailed 2-0, but got things back on level terms at 2-2.

And even though Oriol Riera made it 3-2 to the Hyundai A-League outfit, Maskey scored FFA Cup Goal of the Year to put his team back in the game and swing the momentum in their favour.

Unfortunately, it was not to be for Hellenic AC, who crashed out of the competition due to Roly Bonevacia's 92nd-minute winner.

Hearts were broken, but memories were made, as Maskey’s goal will forever be remembered as the inaugural FFA Cup Goal of the Year, and one of the tournament’s finest.
