'Such a special moment' - social media reaction as Westfield Matildas set up China PR showdown

The Westfield Matildas produced back-to-back convincing wins at Campbelltown Stadium and the the 6-0 rout of Thailand on Monday was a night of special moments, emotional embraces and first-time experiences.

Some 72 hours after the crushing 7-0 triumph against Chinese Taipei, the Green and Gold returned to the field in Sydney's south-west with Ante Milicic making six changes to keep legs fresh in the Australian camp.

After Emily van Egmond's inaugural international hat-trick, Kyah Simon's first goals for Australia in 22 months and Alanna Kennedy's maiden outing as Westfield Matildas captain, the stars of the show took to social media.

We wrap up the best of their reactions below, ahead of Thursday's Group B decider against China PR at Western Sydney Stadium in Parramatta, Sydney.

COACH REACTION: Milicic pleased with Westfield Matildas new paths to goal

This time around van Egmond was in the spotlight and the hat-trick hero from Friday's match against Chinese Taipei was quick to pay her tributes.

It was a proud night for Alanna Kennedy who captained the Westfield Matildas for the first time in front of her hometown crowd in south-west Sydney – and van Egmond was also subject of her praise.

Monday night was a long time coming for Kyah Simon, who scored her first goals in Green and Gold since April 2018.

Another first for the night was Karly Roestbakken getting her first assist in a Westfield Matildas jersey – and the teenage full-back had some special visitors in Campbelltown.

Roestbakken's Westfield W-League club , Canberrra United, captured the moment perfectly when mother embraced daughter.

And it was a prolific night for Westfield W-League leaders' Melbourne City players in Ante Milicic's squad – as outlined on their Twitter feed in emoji form.

The Westfield Matildas are now three matches away from confirming their place at Tokyo 2020 and the account of Australia's Olympic Team are watching every step of the way.

Results are strong and the goals are flowing, and new Everton recruit Hayley Raso is savouring every moment down under alongside her international teammates before jetting to England.

Tameka Yallop was introduced as a late substitute, meaning every outfield Westfield Matilda has played minutes in the opening two matches of this competition, and the Brisbane Roar star has Tokyo on her mind.

This time the final word goes to our Westfield Matildas social account as focus turns to a crunch clash against China PR on Thursday, 13 February to determine the seedings for the winner-takes-all playoffs in March.
