Sky Blues sign Brosque as Aussie marquee

Sydney FC have announced club record goalscorer Alex Brosque will return to the Sky Blues as their Australian marquee player on a two-year deal.

Brosque, who is the fourth highest all time appearance maker for Sydney FC, will don the Sky Blues jersey once again and will link up with his new team-mates from July 1.

“We are delighted to welcome Alex back to Sydney FC,” said Sydney FC Chairman Scott Barlow.

“Alex has enjoyed a number of very successful seasons abroad and it's fantastic he's decided that now is the right time to return home to Sydney FC.

“It's great to have a player of his quality and a person of his calibre returning to our club.”

In his previous five seasons with Sydney FC, Brosque became a cult hero with the members and fans for his energy, work rate and crucial goals.

He was part of the Sky Blues side who clinched the Premiership and Championship double in the 2009/10 Hyundai A-League season.

Brosque said he was looking forward to working under the tutelage of Head Coach Graham Arnold and that it was an easy decision to re-join Sydney FC.

“Sydney FC is the biggest club in the country and there was never any doubt when they contacted me that I wanted to return,” he said.

“Graham Arnold has bold ambitions for this season and I want to be a part of that.

“My dream is to help the Sky Blues win the Championship again and reach the Asian Champions League.

“I have great memories of the Members and fans here and I can’t wait to step back out in front of them at Allianz Stadium. It’s good to be back and I can’t wait for the season to get underway.”

Brosque stands as Sydney FC’s highest all time goal scorer with 35 goals and Sydney FC Head Coach Graham Arnold believes his signing is another which will further bolster his squad.

“It’s great to have a crowd favourite in Alex back at Sydney FC.  His leadership and his quality will be an important ingredient in our club this year.

“His personality is the perfect fit for us and our dressing room.

“Alex is a proven goal scorer and his track record at Sydney FC speaks for itself,” he said.

“He’s got a knack for creating chances as well as taking them and I’m looking forward to continuing my working relationship with him, having worked with him at national team level.”

Brosque joins the Sky Blues after most recently playing in the United Arab Emirates with Al Ain.  He has also had stints in Belgium and Japan throughout his career.
