Signing news: Phoenix secure young midfielder from Sydney FC

Ufuk Talay has gone to his former club to strengthen his Wellington Phoenix squad, signing former Sydney FC midfielder Cameron Devlin.

The 21-year-old, who played seven games in the Hyundai A-League in 2018/19, has signed a two-year deal with the Kiwi club.

"I’m very grateful to Ufuk for bringing me here to Wellington and I’m looking forward to working really hard and giving it my all for the fans here in Wellington," Devlin told Phoenix's official website.

"I thoroughly enjoyed working with him last year and are really looking forward to the chance to work with him again.

"I know that Wellington is a family orientated club and I’m glad to be a part of that for the next couple of seasons."

A crafty central midfielder, Devlin is highly rated and scored his first Hyundai A-League goal in the Sky Blues' 2-0 win over Adelaide United in March.

He also featured in Sydney FC's AFC Champions League campaign, playing in the home match against Kawasaki Frontale in May.

The Sydney-born playmaker started his career with Sutherland Sharks, while he has also featured with Western Sydney Wanderers in the NPL.

"Devlin is a hard worker who enjoys getting on the ball, so he fits into my vision for this season of creating a mixture of youth and experience," Talay said.

Devlin is set to link up with his new Phoenix teammates immediately and will begin training with the club later this week.
