Signing news: Perth add Margush to goalkeeping crop

Perth Glory have added youth to their experienced goalkeeping unit after announcing the signing of former Adelaide United goalkeeper Daniel Margush on a two-year deal.

Margush, 22, joins Liam Reddy and Tando Velaphi in Perth’s goalkeeping brigade, signing with the Premiers until the end of the Hyundai A-League 2021/22 Season.

The Adelaide local rose through the ranks at the Reds to make seven appearances for the senior side between 2016 and 2018.

Signing with the Glory after parting ways with Adelaide earlier this month, Margush is available for selection in his new side’s upcoming 2020 AFC Champions League campaign.

Margush, who is currently in Thailand with Australia's U-23 squad, says joining Popovic’s Glory outfit is an exciting prospect for his flourishing career.

"This is a great opportunity for me and it was definitely the right time for me to try and look for regular first-team football," Margush told perthglory.com.au.

"Watching from afar what Tony Popovic has done at the clubs he’s been at, it’s always an intriguing package that he puts together and I’m excited to be a part of it now.

"I think it can all go really well and I’m looking forward to getting started."

Perth Glory Football Director Jacob Burns says he expects the young shot-stopper to provide healthy competition to Reddy and Velaphi as Margush prepares to link up with his new teammates.

"Daniel is someone we’ve always admired and long-believed would be a great acquisition," Burns said.

"So we’re extremely pleased to have brought him on board.

"He’s a highly-talented young goalkeeper with both A-League and Olyroos experience under his belt and we’re sure that he will add further competition and depth to what is already a very competitive squad."

Upon announcing the signing of Margush, Glory also revealed young defender Riley Warland has parted ways with the club by mutual consent.

Warland had rejoined the Glory after a stint at English side Fulham leading into the 2019/20 Hyundai A-League campaign, but departs once more with the club wishing him all the very best for the future.
