Signing news: Midfield general Lia joins premiers Perth Glory

Perth Glory have bolstered their midfield stocks with the signing of experienced midfielder Vince Lia.

Lia, who was released by Adelaide United last week, joins Glory for the remainder of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 Season.

The 34-year-old comes in as a long-term injury replacement for central defender Dino Djulbic.

"I’m really looking forward to being part of what I think is a special group," Lia told Glory’s official website.

"It’s a team that will obviously challenge for the league again and with an Asian Champions League campaign coming up, I’m hoping to help in any way I can."

Lia has a wealth of experience in the Hyundai A-League, making more than 250 appearances for Melbourne Victory, Wellington Phoenix and the Reds.

He helped Adelaide win both the 2018 and 2019 FFA Cups but with limited opportunities under Gertjan Verbeek this season he opted to depart Coopers Stadium.

And Glory jumped at the chance to add some steel to their midfield, especially with the games set to come thick and fast with the start of their AFC Champions League campaign next month.

"Vince brings a wealth of experience and versatility, plus a winning mentality and has been a consummate professional throughout his career," Glory Football Director Jacob Burns said.

"He will provide great competition and depth to our squad during what will be a testing time physically as we look to compete both domestically and in Asia."

Lia could come straight into Glory’s squad for their huge clash against Melbourne City at AAMI Park on Saturday night.

Glory – on a club record six-game winning streak - are currently third and just two points behind City in second, with a game in hand.
