Signing news: Hamill joins Hyundai A-League newcomers Western United FC

Brendan Hamill has swapped Sydney for Melbourne, linking with new Hyundai A-League club Western United FC for the 2019/20 Season.

After confirming on Tuesday that Hamill was leaving Western Sydney Wanderers, the 26-year-old has wasted little time settling his future by putting pen-to-paper with United.

“After speaking to the coaches and staff at Western United, I was really impressed on how they are planning to make a huge impact in their first season of the A-League starting in October," Hamill said.

“Having played in Melbourne a few years ago, my wife and I cannot wait to get back to start pre-season. I was a young teenager when I first arrived in Melbourne.

“I’ve matured a lot having played in South Korea for a number of seasons and then taking up a leadership role at the Wanderers. I’m also really excited to play alongside Ersan Gulum!”

Hamill, who has played over 130 games in the Hyundai A-League, is the 16th player signed to the club, who enter the Hyundai A-League next season.

He started his career in the Hyundai A-League with Melbourne Heart, playing two seasons with the club before moving to Korea.

After a couple of years abroad, Hamill returned to play with the Wanderers, where he was club captain for the most recent campaign under Markus Babbel.

“Securing Brendan now enables us to have a really good mix of experienced and younger central defenders to form the foundation of our backline," United assistant coach John Anastasiadis.

"Brendan along with Josh Risdon, Aaron Calver, Jonathan Aspropotamitis and Ersan Gulum is a fantastic group of defenders for our new club."
