Sensational Kerr takes out NWSL Player of the Month award

Sam Kerr’s freakish goal-scoring talent has led to the Chicago Red Stars striker being named the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Month for September.

The Westfield Matildas skipper was voted the NWSL’s best for her incredible displays, which included five goals and three assists in just five matches.

The 26-year-old’s jaw-dropping month started with a brace against Houston Dash, before setting up the winner against Orlando Pride the following week.

She also scored two goals and had an assist in the 3-1 win over Washington which saw her break her own NWSL record for goals in a season (currently 18).

Kerr’s Heroics saw the Red Stars win all five games in September to secure second spot and a home semi-final at SeatGeek Stadium on Monday, October 21 (AEDT).

The Aussie star is on course for her third consecutive NWSL Golden Boot, with her 18 for the campaign so far six clear of the next best, North Carolina Courage's Lynn Williams.

The Red Stars have completed their regular season, and will play either Portland Thorns or Reign FC in the semi-finals.

Kerr’s Player of the Month award comes on the same day she joins football royalty Kylian Mbappe and Cristiano Ronaldo in debuting a new Nike boot – the Mercurial Dream Speed – which is being released for the first time on October 3.

She has also been nominated for two gongs at the upcoming Women in Sports Awards.
