Scottish Premiership watch: Celtic’s pre-season summary

With the Scottish Premiership season beginning this weekend, we’re taking a look at how the club of Caltex Socceroos playmaker Tom Rogic – Celtic – is shaping up ahead of the 2018/19 Season.

The Bhoys will again start the campaign as title favourites, having won the treble (League title, FA Cup and League Cup) for the last two seasons.

While manager Brendan Rodger’s has some quality players at his disposal, no player excites the Celtic Park faithful more than Rogic, who signed a new five-year deal with the club last season.

Having been back with Celtic for three weeks since his exertions with Australia at the recent FIFA World Cup™, Rogic is set to play a key role again this season, starting with the weekend’s home clash with Livingston.

ROGIC’S PRE-SEASON

Due to his commitments in Russia with the Caltex Socceroos, Rogic only returned to pre-season training with Celtic on July 12.

Eager not to rush his star playmaker, Rodgers only used the 25-year-old for the first time in the first leg of last week’s UEFA Champions League qualifier against Rosenborg.

Rogic came off the bench for the last 13 minutes as the Hoops came from behind to win 3-1.

He again started on the bench on Thursday morning (AEST) for the return leg, with Celtic playing out a goalless draw in Norway to advance to the final playoff round, where they will play Greek side AEK Athens.

Rodgers has been sure to ease Rogic back into proceedings, aware the 'Wizard of Oz' as he is known by Celtic fans, is set to play another major role for his side this season.
