Round 7 preview: Melbourne Victory v Newcastle Jets

Melbourne Victory reignited their Westfield W-League Finals Series ambitions last week and will seek to close the gap further on the top four when they host the Newcastle Jets on Sunday.

Jeff Hopkins' Navy Blue claimed a hard-fought 1-0 away win over finals rivals Adelaide United in Round 6 but the sixth-placed Jets have the opportunity to kickstart their own post-season bid when they head to Victoria this weekend.

Ash Wilson's team may have only won one of their five games this season but an impressive 4-1 triumph over Western Sydney Wanderers in Round 5 will have given the Hunter outfit the belief they can finish the 2020/21 campaign strongly.

And sitting five points back from fourth place, and three points behind Big V, the Jets will know this could be all or nothing for their post-season ambitions when they face a Victory side who snapped a two-game losing streak with that crucial win against the Reds last time out.
