Roestbakken named Westfield Young Matildas captain for AFC U-19 Women's Championship

Karly Roestbakken will captain the Westfield Young Matildas in the forthcoming AFC U-19 Women's Championship in Thailand.

Canberra United defender Roestbakken, 18, was presented with the armband by head coach Leah Blayney at the team's presentation weekend.

Sydney FC's Shadeene Evans and Perth Glory's Rachel Lowe were each named vice-captains on the day, with Westfield Matildas stalwart Clare Polkinghorne on hand to annoint the new Young Matildas leadership group.

Roestbakken, Evans, Lowe and the rest of Blayney's 23-player squad left for Chonburi on Monday, where they will spend a week acclimatising to the heat and humidity of Thailand, ahead of Group A fixtures against DPR Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.

Many of the players in Australia's squad will be taking part in their HSC exams during the tournament.

The top two teams from each of the two groups in Chonburi will advance to the semi-finals of the tournament, with the top three sides at the tournament earning one of Asia's qualification slots at the 2020 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.
