Roar like new recruit's attitude

Young Korean winger Do Dong-Hyun has impressed Brisbane Roar officials with his enthusiasm in his first stint in a foreign country.

In his first couple of weeks with Brisbane, Do has thrown himself into training and the Roar are thrilled with his attitude.

Despite being only 19 years of age and having very limited English knowledge, Do has remained positive and outgoing since joining Brisbane on July 17.

"I really like it here," Dong said on Thursday, via an interpreter.

"The climate is great, I like the facilities around the club and the coaching staff and players have given me a warm welcome.

"To be honest, it was a bit of a culture shock, especially in training.

"We are very tough on each other and compete hard but afterwards, everyone is friendly to each other."

Do's English skills have improved rapidly and the Korean teenager has revealed he would like to live with an Australian family in order to improve to learn even quicker, if his new club can organise that for him.

Brisbane's playing group have played a key role in Do's rapid improvement.

"It starts with all the other boys," Do said.

"They speak to me and I try to respond in English so I am learning a few words every day.

"I also watch the news and I try to read books.

"If I see a new word, I try and use it next time I speak to the players."

Do has represented his country at Under 20 level but has not played for a professional club before, having signed for Brisbane from Boin High School, which plays in the Korean National Youth League.

But there are no doubts at the Roar that the tiny left-winger can play after he set up a goal in his first pre-season match for Brisbane last week.

That performance has obviously impressed Roar striker Besart Berisha, who has become one of Do's regular chauffeurs to training.

"Berisha is a really good man, he is always helping me all the time," Do said.

"Yesterday, I was speaking to the coach and he came up to us suddenly and joked 'Do is my second son'.

"He also invited me to dinner at his house and his wife cooked dinner."
