Road to the FFA Cup Final 2019: Sydney Olympic toppled by rivals Marconi Stallions

Sydney Olympic’s road to the FFA Cup Final 2019 has come to an end as Marconi Stallions marched towards a potential date with a Hyundai A-League powerhouse.

Four-time National Soccer League champions, Marconi, punched their ticket to the FFA Cup 2019 Round of 32 for the third time following a 3-1 triumph over their city rivals in the Seventh Preliminary Round in NSW on Wednesday night.

Goals from James Andrew, Marko Jesic and Marty Fernandez did the damage for the away side as Jason Madonis’ effort proved to be merely a consolation.

16 locked in, 16 to be decided

Our Road to the FFA Cup 2019 feature will continue to follow Marconi Stallions into the Round of 32, where they join the 10 Hyundai A-League sides and five other NPL NSW qualifiers.

Sydney United 58 made it five appearances in six years following a 3-2 victory over Northern Tigers as Patrick Antelmi’s penalty in extra time proved decisive.

Meanwhile, Mount Druitt Town Rangers, Manly United and St George filled the remaining gaps of New South Wales' allocation in the Round of 32.

Northern NSW

The Sixth Round kicks off in Northern NSW this weekend as Kahibah FC welcome Valentine FC and Boambee Bombers face off against Maitland FC.

Also on Saturday, Bangalow SC go head-to-head with Hamilton Olympic, while Edgeworth FC challenge Broadmeadow Magic.

The four winners will play off on Monday 10 June to decide Northern NSW’s two spots in the Round of 32. 

South Australia

Adelaide Olympic downed Adelaide Comets 2-1 on Wednesday to advance to the Seventh Round, where they will meet Adelaide City, 2-1 conquerors of Elizabeth Downs SC on Tuesday night.

The winners over the June 22 playoff take SA’s single slot in the Round of 32.

Northern Territory

University Azzurri are now one game away from the Round of 32 after beating Casuarina FC 3-1 on Tuesday. They will face the winners of Verdi FC and Darwin Olympic, who play on Saturday 15 June.

Queensland

It’s all at stake in the Sunshine State as four places in the Round of 32 will be decided this weekend. Gold Coast Knights host Brisbane Strikers on Friday night, while Surfers Paradise Apollo take on Olympic FC on Saturday.

Also on Saturday, Magpies Crusaders travel north from Mackay to face Brothers Townsville. Meanwhile, Coomera entertain Logan Lightning FC. The winners of each advance to the promised land. 

Tasmania

Devonport and South Hobart aim to lock up the Apple Isle’s solitary Round of 32 berth when they meet in the Seventh Round on Monday 10 June.
