Risdon remaining 'focused' on Wanderers despite Caltex Socceroos form

Western Sydney Wanderers defender Josh Risdon said he is staying focused on the Hyundai A-League after yet another excellent performance at international level.

Risdon caught the eye at the FIFA World Cup 2018 for the Caltex Socceroos and the right back put in another impressive showing in Saturday evening’s 1-1 draw between Australia and Korea Republic.

But when asked afterwards if he was thinking about an overseas move, Risdon said that while he is “super keen” about the prospect, his immediate focus was on the Wanderers.

“I’m super keen. It’s always an ambition of mine to play overseas,” he told Fox Sports.

“Maybe I’ll get there one day.

“[But] obviously I’m focused domestically at the Wanderers at the moment and just putting in a good performance week in, week out for my team back in Sydney.

“I guess if I just keep performing well then, yeah, see what happens.”

Risdon felt Saturday’s clash with Korea Republic was one of his best performances in an Australia shirt, providing a confidence boost ahead of Western Sydney’s clash with Newcastle Jets on Friday evening at Spotless Stadium.

“I felt very comfortable out there, physically and on the ball as well,” he said.

“It’s very good to get to know this new style that ‘Arnie’ [Caltex Socceroos coach Graham Arnold] wants to play. I think it suits me very well.”
