‘Resilience and heart’: Plaudits flow for Matildas and Kerr after victory over Jamaica

The Matildas are into the last 16 of the FIFA Women’s World Cup and they did it in style with a 4-1 win over Jamaica on Wednesday morning (AEST).

Led by captain Sam Kerr – who scored all four goals – the Matildas got the result that secured second spot in Group C and a clash with Norway in the early hours of Sunday (AEST).

Kerr created her own piece of history, becoming the first Australian to score a hat-trick at a men’s or women’s FIFA World Cup.

Not surprisingly, there was plenty of love for the Matildas and their superstar skipper on social media.

Relive every goal and big moment from Australia's clash with Jamaica

Here’s some of the best reaction from a memorable match at the base of the Alps in Grenoble.

And what better place to start than with Kerr’s proud grandmother, who predicted pre-game that Sammy would deliver something special against Jamaica.

There was a mixture of excitement, pride and relief as the Matildas confirmed their spot in the knockout phase.

Unsurprisingly, much of the praise was coming for the Matildas' inspirational captain after her sensational four-goal haul.

Kerr has now scored five times in the tournament and sits equal-first on the goal charts alongside USA's Alex Morgan.

But the last word goes to the lady of the moment. A dream indeed.
