Reds stop Heart

A brace from Dario Vidosic has seen Adelaide United finish 2-1 victors over Melbourne Heart in their pre season trial match.

A goal in each half from Dario Vidosic and an impressive penalty save from talented young goalkeeper Paul Izzo has helped Adelaide United FC to a 2-1 win over Melbourne Heart

Fans at the game were treated to an entertaining contest as both teams went out with an attacking intent and managed to create a number of chances.

The Reds, minus midfield duo Zenon Caravella and Fabian Barbiero plus new Argentine signings Marcelo Carrusca and Jeronimo Morales Neumann, struck first when Vidosic produced a cracking strike from long range in the 10th minute that gave Heart keeper Andrew Redmayne no chance.

But just before the half hour Melbourne Heart was back level when a Golgol Mebrahtu header found its way into the back of the net.

That was how the score stayed at the break, with Reds Coach John Kosmina replacing Eugene Galekovic, Nigel Boogaard, Jake Barker-Daish and Sergio van Dijk for Izzo, Osama Malik, Cameron Watson and Bruce Djite for the start of the second half.

Kosmina made another change with Cassio making way for Antony Golec on the hour mark and shortly after, the Heart won themselves a penalty for a hand ball against Iain Fyfe in the area.

New Heart signing Dylan Macallister stepped up to take the spot kick but his effort was superbly kept out by Izzo.

Barely 10 minutes later the referee was pointing to the spot again, this time in the Reds- favour after Evan Kostopoulos was adjudged to have been brought down.

Vidosic made no mistake with his spot kick to give him his second goal of the night and a 2-1 score line in favour of the visitors.

Heart substitute Nick Kalmar fired just wide of Izzo-s left post late on, the Reds holding on to leave the score 2-1 at the final whistle.

While Kosmina will take the result, his attention for the Reds- trial matches from here on in will be more on the process ahead of the ACL Quarter Final with Bunyodkor on September 19.
