Re-live the week: Nike FIFA World Cup kit reveals

A brand new kit revealed, hitting the streets of Paris and the world’s greatest selfie. It’s been a huge week for members of the Westfield Matildas.

With the FIFA Women’s World Cup now less than three months away, the build-up to the tournament is in full swing with every nation unveiling their new jerseys on Monday.

The Westfield Matildas strip was launched at an exclusive kit reveal in Melbourne with a number of stars on hand to show off the eye-catching jersey, which has generated plenty of buzz.

We got a behind-the-scenes look at how it all went down in Melbourne.

 


Westfield Matildas skipper Sam Kerr was one of a number of Australian stars on hand to launch the new strip and said the design, which is unique to the Westfield Matildas, is something the team had been looking forward to for a long time.

Hayley Raso spoke to www.matildas.com.au about the slogan of ‘Never Say Die’ on the inside of the collar.

Raso said having a physical reminder of their mantra on them at all times was special.

Westfield Matildas midfielder Emily van Egmond described the jersey as "super fun and obviously very out there".

As well as the Westfield Matildas' official kit launch, both skipper Sam Kerr and defender Ellie Carpenter were in Paris for the Nike 2019 National Team kit unveil.

Along with players from 13 other countries, the Aussie duo were part of a glittering ceremony which featured the majority of the kits which will be work during June's FIFA Women's World Cup.

The official launch allowed the Westfield Matildas duo to spend time with players from the nation's they will be competing against later this year.

And it also enabled Kerr to capture one of the best selfies of 2019 so far!

 

 

 

The week ended with a huge honour for Westfield Matildas captain Kerr, who has been featured in a short film released by Nike on Friday.

The film highlights Kerr’s childhood growing up in Perth, a glimpse into her family, her love of AFL and journey to becoming a footballing superstar.
