Raul Blanco

Born in Argentina in 1941, Raul Blanco emigrated to Australia in 1967. He joined Sydney team Prague as a striker in the NSW State League before transferring to Pan Hellenic in 1972 for three years.Between 1979 and 1996 Blanco coached in the national league for a total of 281 matches (44 with St George, 23 with Marconi, 104 with the Parramatta Eagles, and 110 with West Adelaide). In 1991 he won the NSL Cup with Parramatta.


Blanco’s 20-year involvement with the national team started when he became assistant coach for Australia at the 1981 World Youth Championships in Sydney. He was retained for the 1983 tournament in Mexico and the Merlion Cup in Singapore. Blanco was coach of the Australian senior team for the Oceania Nations Cup finals in 1996 and 1998 and led the Australian Team at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
