Premiership-winning forward signs for Adelaide City

Adelaide City have boosted their attacking firepower and bolstered their bid to avoid relegation by signing ex-Hyundai A-League winger Fabio Ferreira.

The Portuguese attacker, 30, joins the struggling NPL SA club for the remainder of the 2019 season.

Ferreira was most recently with Perth Glory and won the 2018/19 Premiership with Tony Popovic’s side before he was released by the WA club in May.

He’ll join former Adelaide United teammate Evan Kostopoulos at the Black and White. The pair played together in the City of Churches during the 2012/13 Hyundai A-League season.

NPL WEEKEND WRAP

“After I left Perth I spoke to quite a few people and Evan (Kostopoulos) was one of the people to convince me to come to City,” Ferreira told Adelaide City’s official website.

“I want to help the club remain in the NPL and push hard for the end of the season.”

A youth product of Premier League club Chelsea, Ferreira won the inaugural FFA Cup with Adelaide in 2014.

The Portuguese also played for Central Coast Mariners and Sydney FC, tallying 123 Hyundai A-League appearances in total for a return of 30 goals.

City are second-last on the NPL ladder having notched just three victories to their name in 14 games.

But first up for Ferreira is an FFA Cup Preliminary Round Grand Final against Adelaide Olympic at Coopers Stadium this Saturday.
